The Kinzua Bridge was a railroad trestle that spanned Kinzua Creek in McKean County in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. The bridge was 301 feet (92 m) tall and 2,052 feet (625 m) long prior to its collapse. The bridge was originally built from iron in 1882 and was billed as the "Eighth Wonder of the World", holding the record as the tallest railroad bridge in the world for two years. In 1900 the bridge was dismantled and simultaneously rebuilt out of steel to allow it to accommodate heavier trains. It stayed in commercial service until 1959 and was sold to the state government of Pennsylvania in 1963, becoming the centerpiece of a state park. Restoration of the bridge began in 2002, but before it was finished, a tornado struck the bridge in 2003 causing a large portion of the bridge to collapse. Contributing to the collapse was the failure, caused by corrosion, of the anchor bolts holding the bridge towers to their foundations. Before its collapse, the Kinzua Bridge was ranked as the fourth tallest railway bridge in the United States. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977 and as a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark in 1982. The Kinzua Bridge is in Kinzua Bridge State Park off U.S. Route 6 near the borough of Mount Jewett, Pennsylvania. (more...)

Do people use "411" or the yellow pages anymore?
Q. hey guys and gals, I run a small family business which is an alarm installation company out of Stamford, ct. I really just wanted to know how are people looking for different types of business's. our company is picking up allot in certain area's and well we feel that we should start advertising a little more to keep it going. we used to advertise in the yellow pages but have stopped due to we switch phone company's. does anyone know of the best possible advertising ways?

A. Yes, but they're outside of my target market. For a company that sells tangible products which must be locally installed, 411 and yellow pages might still make sense (but maybe your ideal client is too sophisticated for that). What you need is a basic method to track which customers are reaching you through what marketing channel (a simple prepaid postcard survey on every job should be sufficient). Then you can optimize your marketing efforts based on the customers you want to reach. This is just basic marketing. The other questions on your survey may be helpful to sort out other things too, like the professionalism of your installers, timeliness, reason they bought from you, etc.

Democrats are changing the ethics bill So much for transparency?
Q. The Senate's Ethics Sleight of Hand By Robert D. Novak Monday, September 10, 2007; Page A15 The final version of the widely celebrated ethics bill, approved by overwhelming margins in both the House and Senate a month ago, finally and quietly made its way last week from Capitol Hill to the White House. What only a handful of leaders and insiders realize is that this measure, avowedly dedicated to transparency, actually makes it easier for the Senate to pass pet projects without the public -- or many senators -- being aware of it. Until now, one or two senators could block provisions not passed by the Senate or House from being inserted, usually at the end of a session, into the final version of a bill. Under the new rule, it will take 40… [cont.]

A. This does not sound good. Our government bureaucracy will just continue to grow to the pleasure of the liberal attorneys who are trying to take over every office in the land.

Would this be illegal?
Q. 1: A job I worked for ripped me off badly. REALLY badly. I filed a report with the work board who sided with company. They gave us a contract with 1 thing and meant 1 other thing. They wouldn't even give me a copy of it to ask my sister what it meant. #2: I have inherited the phone number of some guy who lives really close to my home from Rogers. Since September I have had Collection Agencies, Telemarketers, Insane Cultists calling my number for him, and refuse to believe he doesn't live here. It's very annoying. The 411 page for MY phone number lists HIS address. ... Would it be acceptable to order a fake work order from #1 on #2's property? It'd make me feel better about being ripped off, and it would teach him a lesson for not… [cont.]

A. Even if you "can't read lawyer", when you sign a contract you accept all the conditions stated on it. If you don't understand it, you should've asked. If you feel that they might be lying, you should have someone who has experience in contract law to assist you. As you said "order a FAKE work order". That shows intent that you are trying to commit fraud. How is taking revenge on someone legal? Good luck.
